Inopacan ABC president shot dead

Celso Malanguis was the incumbent Brgy. Chairman of Brgy. Conalum and the president of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC)  in Inopacan, Leyte.

The barangay chairman of Inopacan, Leyte was shot dead by still unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen (riding in tandem) last Monday morning (September 23, 2013), four days before the start of barangay election period.

The crime scene (video grab from TV Patrol Tacloban). Malanguis just came from a session meeting in the new Inopacan Municipal Hall. On his way home, he dropped by at the Agrivit store in Brgy. Tao-taon to buy some feeds for his chicken when gunmen intently shot him, hitting his head that caused his instantaneous death.

Celso Espinosa Malanguis, 48, was shot in front of a livestock supply store along the national highway in Barangay Conalum.

Police said possible motives are Malanguis' campaign against illegal drugs or the barangay and SK elections next month.
 
The crime scene (video grab from TV Patrol Tacloban). The slained Brgy. Chairman of Brgy. Conalum and president of Inopacan ABC sustained one gunshot wound in the head. According to the store attendant who witnessed the incident, the attacker shot Mr. Malanguis from behind at close range.

Mrs. Daria Malanguis, the victim's wife, said her husband was also ambushed in 2010. It was also around the time of the barangay polls.

She added that a grenade was also lobbed at their residence three days before the mid-term elections last May.
